Honda’s Battle of the Bands is an invitational showcase that recognizes and uplifts Black marching bands. It highlights Black excellence amongst HBCU’s (Historically Black Colleges and Universities). Eight bands are chosen to advance to the showcase and put on amazing musical performances.
I do not attend an HBCU, so this was an eye-opening experience for me. It was something drastically new and unbelievably fascinating—I definitely wouldn’t mind going next year.
I wanted to emphasize the grand significance of this event by dressing appropriately and stylistically. The only way to show respect towards this unforgettable showcase is by making a strong commitment to how I dressed.
What I’m Wearing

SHIRT: Neon never goes out of style, and it will forever be a jaw-dropping trend. This thin turtleneck is from Shein. It is a fitted top, so it smoothly tucks into your pants. Because this is a skintight top, I had to wear bra pasties under it.
JEANS: These distressed jeans are from PrettyLittleThing, one of my favorite boutiques. I love the placement of the rips, as well as the color. These are the perfect white jeans for me: loose fitting and high waisted.
SHOES: My parents gave me these neon Vans on my 14th birthday. That was nearly five years ago, so these shoes are most likely not in stock anymore. The Vans are from Journeyz, and they sell a wide variety of shoes, so check them out!
BELT: Chains have been a trend for a while, and I am for sure willing to hop on that trend. I bought this belt from Romwe a year ago, and I love it. It completes any look, and they are available for all sizes! It is definitely something different.
SUNGLASSES: These FashionNova glasses give off a groovy 80s vibe. They overall complimented my outfit, and they make a strong colorful statement. These are currently not on Fashion Nova’s website.
